Are you lucky enough to reside in one of the world Pokemon hubs? Or will you have to renew your passport to become a Pokemon master? We bring you- The 5 best cities to find Pokemon in PokemonGo!
5. Washington DC
Lure-Module Density- 5.2
Team Influence- Moderately Blue
Common Pokemon- Pidgey, Staryu, Dodrio, Rattata
I will start by staying that Washington DC did not have a large community of trainers. This was a surprise to us. HOWEVER, Washington DC is memorial central (obviously) which means Poke-Stops galore. It would only take one or two lure friendly trainers to have the town looking like San Fran. There is definite potential.
If that doesn’t work out you can always head to the White House (Which is a gym!) and try to put a Pidgeotto named ‘Freedom’ as the head Pokemon. But unless your being forced on a family trip, we would not recommend going out of the way for a Pokemon hunt.
Bottom line- Despite all the Poke-Stops and potential for a lure-fest, those pink pedals that make us go nuts were few and far in between. If you happen to be in town your best shot would be posting up by one of the more well known memorials; down by the capitol building. You just may find some Poke-Stops with lure modules.
Washington DC, United States
Lure modules aside for a second, DC had to make the list for it’s map layout. It is one of the few cities that is recognizable through only the Pokemon Go map. The pools that lay before memorials and the paths that cross through fields like design are unique, and upon arrival it was refreshing.
Lure-Module Density- 5.0
Team Influence- Unclear
Common Pokemon- Magikarp, Krabby, Zubat
Now although we didn’t see anything too impressive in Tokyo, please keep in mind that we reviewed it the second day after it’s release. Players were still learning the ropes. Most may have been unaware what a lure is. If we were to go back today, things might be entirely different! And I hope so, because I was a little let down…
This is what the city looked like when I got there-
So many poke-stops… so much potential…
But it’s Tokyo so it is has to be one of the 5 best cities to find Pokemon in PokemonGo!
There is also of course the fact that Farfetch’d can only be found in Japan! A local from Tokyo told us had seen it twice but both times failed to catch the Pokemon. (I’m sure that’s a true story) Either way, you can be sure to find a little different spectrum of Pokemon on Asia’s most famous island.
I took a screenshot of a typical “near-by” spread. If you live in middle-America, this would be a breath of fresh air for you.
3. San Francisco
Lure-Module Density- 7.1
Team Influence- Very Red
Common Pokemon- Zubat, Staryu, Eevee
Now we get to the good stuff! The cities that are not only full of poke-stops, but are also full of poke-trainers. And not just any pokemon trainers. Rich pokemon trainers. The trust fund babies who can stay up until 3AM buying more lure modules for the cities enjoyment! If you live here, you can get to lvl 15 in one night. If you live here, you will never have to worry about running out of poke-balls again. Without a doubt, it is one of the 5 best cities to find Pokemon in PokemonGo.
I’ll show you what I mean…
This screenshot was taken around 11AM pacific time. And it never stops. Hundreds of yards any direction from city square and you will see the showers of peddles, a dreamy mesh of blue and pink that seems to go on forever.
Lure-Module Density- 6.4
Team Influence- Moderately Yellow
Common Pokemon- Zubat, Doduo, Ekans, Krabby
Heard good things about Sydney as a Pokemon city, but flying all the way there to see it seemed drastic.
We reached out to our intern Kelsey (who, luckily, is currently vacationing in Sydney), and asked if she would mind giving us a hand. She kindly created an account, and about an hour later I was shown an image that made me want to renew my passport.
It’s simply beautiful. I don’t know how else to put it. This photo was taken at 3AM AUSTRALIAN TIME! The city never sleeps! Which brings me to our final city for consideration…
1. New York City
Lure-Module Density- 7.8
Team Influence- Moderately Red
Common Pokemon- Rattata, Pidgey, Voltorb, Magnemite
If you live in New York City then congrats, you hit the jackpot. (As far as POGO is concerned anyway…)
Not only is it densely populated with Poke-Stops, trainers, and lure modules, but for whatever reason, the variety of Pokemon in NYC is incomparable to any other city.
Sure, there are a ton of Rattatas and Pidgeys. Every city has got a ton of them. BUT, walk down any street at anytime and you are bound to find Magnemites, Growlithe, Voltorb, and Pinser! So many Pinsers!
So you want to become a Pokemon master? Central Park would be a good place to start!
